Leeds United's first two Premier League matches for 16 years have been absolutely crazy affairs.

Last weekend, they lost 4-3 in a high-octane clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

Remarkably, they then won 4-3 when they saw off the challenge of Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

The manner in which they conceded the last two goals won't have pleased Marcelo Bielsa, but at the end of the day, this was their first win in the top-flight of English football since April 2004.

Based on that, there can be few complaints. Leeds are just happy to finally have a place in the Premier League again.

This has been a summer to remember though. They broke their transfer record to sign Rodrigo just a matter of weeks after coming up.

If that wasn't enough, Bielsa signed on for at least one more season.

Leeds United haven't been too active in the window over the last fortnight but that doesn't mean they aren't still working on a few deals.

Phil Hay insists that a few more players will walk through the door before the window is up but could one of them be someone they nearly signed in 2019.

According to The Sun, Leeds are interested in landing Manchester United winger Daniel James.

They claim that the Whites will make an attempt to sign the speedy attacker and are willing to do a deal either permanently or loan.

Leeds believe they can snatch him away for a price of £12m, plus add-ons. That would be a mere snip in today's market.

Bielsa is a long-term admirer of James and would love to add him to the squad at Elland Road.

Daniel James

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This would be quite something.

Many will remember and be able to recall the events of 2019. James was through the door at Leeds and was even pictured holding up a shirt at the stadium.

A fee had been agreed and all that was needed to confirm the deal was a quick seal of approval on deadline day from Swansea.

However, the Swans failed to pick up the phone and he eventually stayed at the Liberty Stadium. Just months later, he was signing for Manchester United but an official move to Leeds could finally happen this summer.

Daniel James

Recounting the events of 18 months ago, Angus Kinnear noted: "It was a disappointment, it happened in rather bizarre circumstances but it’s not something we think affects our chances. I think Marcelo described Daniel James as another positive option to have."

It's clear that Victor Orta and Bielsa rate him highly, and who can blame them.

James is a player described as "explosive" by one of his teammates Andreas Pereira. His form may have dropped off in the second half of last season, but in scoring four and assisting seven, he showed he has Premier League class.
