Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed quite a summer so far.

Last year was hugely disappointing for the north London side as several issues both on and off the pitch had a huge impact on the club's performances.

That saw Spurs finish the season outside of the top four, and subsequently will see them compete in the Europa League this term.

But there's no question about what the targets are for the upcoming season.

Jose Mourinho has been brought in for one reason, and that's to win silverware.

A trophy would be a big landmark for the club, while it's paramount that Spurs push for a place in the top four this term as well.

Mourinho had plenty of work to do with his squad, but he'll be delighted that things are shaping up nicely as we enter the last couple of weeks of the transfer window.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty all arrived at the club before the season started, while a huge double deal for Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale from Real Madrid was completed over the weekend.

Those deals will undoubtedly improve the first team squad, but they're far from done yet.

Reports from The Times have suggested that Spurs are in talks over a move for Jesse Lingard.

The Manchester United man has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and is likely to be available for a move this summer.

Mourinho is thought to be a big fan of the England international and sees him as a player who can add significant energy and work ethic to Tottenham's midfield.

Whether a move materialises is up for debate, with some suggesting that a deal could depend on the future of Dele Alli who could move on from North London by the end of the window.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This could be an excellent move for Tottenham Hotspur.

Hailed for his 'amazing' performances by Mourinho at Man United, Jesse Lingard is a player who looks set to move on this summer.

While things haven't worked out under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, there's no doubt that he can be a big player for the right team in the Premier League.

Valued at £15.75m by Transfermarkt, Lingard would offer real energy, tenacity and work rate to Tottenham's side - something that Mourinho is desperate to add into the mix this season.

He might not be the Gareth Bale-type name that will get fans excited, but in truth I really think that he is someone that can play a big part in taking the club forward.

It's certainly one to watch in the final weeks of the transfer window, but as far as United are concerned there's no doubt that they'll be happy to sell for the right price.
