Leeds United may well be a surprise package this season.

After two years of dominance in the Championship the Whites managed to leave the second tier behind by emphatically winning the title.

To finish 10 points clear of their nearest rivals was a big signal of intent, and showed their competition that they meant business.

It may have been 16 years since Leeds last played in the Premier League, but they're certainly not showing any sign of nerves.

The club have already concluded some promising business in the transfer market with Robin Koch, Rodrigo and a flurry of young players arriving at Elland Road.

Add into that the fact that they've picked up three points from their opening two games, as well as scoring seven goals and you can see why confidence is high.

But Leeds aren't counting their chickens just.

Marcelo Bielsa is fiercely loyal of the squad that secured promotion for the club, but he's accepting of the fact that he needs to strengthen if the club are to compete in the long run.

One position that's being targeted is a central defender, with a number of players already being linked.

One of those is Haydon Roberts.

Reports from The Athletic have claimed that Leeds United have placed an offer for the Brighton defender.

Comfortable in a variety of positions, the 18-year-old is highly thought of by Graham Potter and the Seagulls who see him as a valuable part of their first team plans in the future.

As such it's claimed that the offer from Leeds has been rejected.

Such news will be a real blow for Victor Orta and his recruitment team who endured a similar struggle to complete a deal for Ben White.

The defender spent last season on loan at Elland Road, but will spend the foreseeable future with Brighton after penning a new contract.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Brighton are certainly putting Leeds United in their place this summer.

After the long, drawn out pursuit of Ben White you'd think that Victor Orta and his squad would have had enough of dealing with the south coast club.

But apparently not.

Similarly to Ben White, Haydon Roberts is an outstanding talent and looks set for a very bright future in the game.

Unfortunately for Leeds it seems that he's not for sale.

With Brighton looking strong in the Premier League they're under little pressure to cash in on their players.

In fact they're actively discouraging it as they look to build a team that is capable of competing at the highest level moving forward.

That means it's no surprise that Graham Potter is determined to keep hold of his players.

For Leeds it's certainly frustrating, but they might be better served looking elsewhere for additions.
