The year 2020 has been a difficult season for many clubs in football, but not Leeds United.

After securing promotion from the Championship last season the Whites were always going to be a team who were shooting for the stars.

After all, a side that finish 10 points clear of their nearest rivals to win the league are no ordinary team.

But life in the fast lane was never going to be easy.

It's been 16 long years since Leeds last graced the Premier League and that means that there's plenty of ground to make up.

That said, Leeds have certainly enjoyed a decent start to life in the top tier.

Despite losing to Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season Leeds showed real promise by scoring three goals, something that they followed up with a rampant 4-3 victory over Fulham at the weekend.

While much of the credit for this start has to be given to Marcelo Bielsa and the squad who secured promotion, there have been some notable additions.

Robin Koch and Rodrigo both arrived in big-money deals from Freiburg and Valencia respectively, but the Whites are far from done.

Signing a new central defender is of the utmost importance, and that's why the club have been linked with a proven Premier League performer.

Reports from Football Insider have claimed that Leeds are interested in a move for Calum Chambers.

The Arsenal defender faces an uncertain future in north London as Mikel Arteta looks to build a team that is capable of pushing for a top four finish.

With options limited in central defence, Bielsa is keen to add a proven performer to his squad to help them compete this term.

That has led them to the Gunners' door with a season-long loan bid being tabled for the former Middlesbrough and Fulham loanee.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This could prove to be a very shrewd move.

Leeds United are desperate to bring in a central defender to improve their squad this season, and Calum Chambers certainly fits the bill.

Described by Garth Crooks as 'a dependable defender', Chambers is a player with real experience in the Premier League and that could make him a real asset.

Okay, he might not be a player that Leeds want to sign on a permanent basis as they look to build a young team who can challenge at the highest level for years to come, but he can certainly do a job.

Solid in defence and comfortable on the ball, there's no doubt that he could be an asset to Bielsa's system and given the lack of opportunities available with Arsenal it could be a deal that suits all parties.
