Manchester United are in desperate need of new signings this summer.

The Red Devils kicked off their 2020/21 Premier League campaign on Saturday evening and were comfortably beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's only major recruit of the transfer window so far, Donny van de Beek, scored United's goal in what was the only small positive to take from the game.

United looked bereft of ideas in attack and Daniel James turned in yet another woeful performance on the right-wing.

Unsurprisingly, the Welshman's display had fans crying out for the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

That deal is beginning to look less and less likely, but United may have found an alternative to the English superstar.

As reported by the Daily Record, the Red Devils have progressed talks with Barcelona over the signing of French winger Ousmane Dembele.

United have proposed a season-long loan and the Spanish giants would be willing to let the 23-year-old leave on a temporary basis before the October 5 deadline.

However, Ronald Koeman's side would insist that an obligatory purchase deal be part of the deal and they value Dembele at €100m.

The former Borussia Dortmund starlet would also have to be convinced to depart Catalonia. He's keen to remain with the Blaugrana after persistent injuries in his three years at the club.

But Barca's financial situation is pretty dire and with Dembele pocketing an annual salary of €6m, they may have to look to offload him.

From a United perspective, the signing would be a pretty exciting one.

When fully fit, the Frenchman is one hell of a player. Two-footed, creative, capable of leaving full-backs for dead and a keen eye for goal, Dembele could be the addition United's attack is crying out for.

They would still need to fix their leaky defence, though...
