Dean Henderson was handed his full Manchester United debut against Luton in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.All summer, it was unknown whether the goalkeeper returning from a brilliant loan spell at Sheffield United or David de Gea would be United’s No.1 this season.We found the answer on Saturday as De Gea started in goal for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.It didn’t go well for the Spaniard as he looked shaky during his side’s 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.Henderson had the opportunity to show everyone what he could do against Luton.Well, he would have had the opportunity if he had any shots to save.Up until the 81st minute, Henderson didn’t have a shot to save as the Red Devils led through a first-half Juan Mata penalty.But then, he produced a quite sensational stop from Tom Lockyer’s header to deny Luton a late equaliser.It was his first save for Man Utd’s first-team and it was a sensational one. To make that save after doing absolutely nothing for 80 minutes as a sign of an incredible goalkeeper.Watch out, De Gea.Just minutes later, Marcus Rashford made it 2-0 to send his team through to the next round.

Then, Mason Greenwood added a third in injury-time.

It will certainly now be interesting to see if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keeps Henderson in goal for the trip to Brighton this weekend. He certainly didn't do anything wrong.

Before the match, former United midfield Darren Fletcher said on Sky Sports that Henderson's return will bring the best out of De Gea.

“He’s gone away to Sheffield United and did fantastic in the Championship and the Premier League last year," Fletcher said.

“David de Gea has a real challenge on his hands now, he’s a genuine contender. Romero was almost happy to be second-choice.

“Dean Henderson wants to be Man United’s number one - he’s got the confidence, he’s got the arrogance, he believes in himself. He backs himself and it’s going to bring out the best out of David De Gea.”
