Jose Mourinho's first summer as Tottenham Hotspur boss has certainly been eventful.Last season didn't go the way in which the Portuguese manager would have wanted it to go with Spurs finishing the campaign in sixth place. That saw the club miss out on a spot in the Champions League, and fall even further behind the Premier League's top clubs. But now is the time for improvement. After the solid additions of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty from Southampton, Burnley and Wolves respectively, things didn't look too promising as they looked to hunt down a spot in the top four. However the additions of Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale certainly changed that. The duo from Real Madrid's arrival certainly sent a message that Spurs supporters that they meant business, and that was only heightened with the recent reported interest in Jesse Lingard.p1eitr2joivsb13ovtk984qtd19.jpgValued at £15.75million by Transfermarkt, the Man United man has fallen out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and looks like his days at Old Trafford could be numbered. With Mourinho linked with a move for his former player, it seemed that his days in Manchester may have been numbered. But apparently not.Charlie Eccleshare covers Tottenham Hotspur for The Athletic and has been following the story closely, but his update seems to spell bad news in Spurs' pursuit.

Taking to Twitter, Eccleshare said: "On Jesse Lingard, my understanding is there's "no chance" he'll join Tottenham Hotspur.

"Not a player Mourinho is interested in."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is a real shame that this deal is a non-starter.

Jesse Lingard is a player of real quality but things have just gone a little bit flat for him at Old Trafford.

Sometimes a player needs a fresh start to kickstart their career and I think that the midfielder falls into that category.

Manchester United are going through a rebuild of their own and it seems that Lingard is not a part of that.

Tottenham are also rebuilding, and with Mourinho looking to add energy and a tireless work ethic to his side I believe that Lingard would be a big asset to his team.

It seems that this isn't going to happen now, but that doesn't mean that the midfielder won't move on.

There's just under two weeks left of the transfer window and the name of Jesse Lingard is bound to be one that we see a lot more during that time.
