Luis Suarez completed his move from Barcelona to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. The Uruguayan enjoyed six hugely successful years at Camp Nou but was deemed surplus to requirements by Barça’s recently-appointed head coach Ronald Koeman.Atletico have managed to secure Suarez’s signature for just £5.5 million."FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their gratitude to Luis Suarez for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future,” the Catalan club said in a statement.A visibly emotional Suarez was filmed driving away from Camp Nou on Wednesday afternoon. He will give a press conference to say goodbye to the club’s fans on Thursday morning. While many of his teammates will be sad to see him go, Lionel Messi will be more gutted than most.p1eivf9vb91csu1vi5110q19p41mqi9.jpgThe legendary Argentine forward became close friends with his fellow South American. They often socialised and their families even holidayed together on a few occasions.p1eivfaipj5co1nui12rnb8532hb.jpgMessi and Suarez were also brilliant together on the pitch - and the departure of his closest mate in football will do little to convince Messi, who wanted to leave Barça this summer, to sign a contract extension at Camp Nou.The two pals even filmed a brilliant advert together a couple of years ago, which some football fans are only just seeing for the first time. The advert sees Messi and Suarez go from best friends to fierce rivals and it’s a great watch.p1eivfg2jl1i691pov7jdl5v5skf.jpgWatch it here…

Gatorade’s advert may well have predicted the future.

From now, Messi and Suarez are now rivals - on the pitch, anyway.

Suarez will have a point to prove after being unceremoniously dumped by Barça and you wouldn’t bet against him winning La Liga under Diego Simeone this season.

The two players will no doubt share a hug before kick-off when Atleti and Barcelona go head-to-head, but the fierce competitors will be desperate to seal all three points for their respective teams as soon as the referee blows his whistle.
