Jorginho has divided opinion at Chelsea since his £50 million move from Napoli in July 2018.
Brought to Stamford Bridge by Maurizio Sarri, who worked with the midfielder in Naples, the 28-year-old has blown hot and cold for the Blues.
Some football fans predicted that Jorginho would struggle for minutes when Frank Lampard replaced Sarri at Chelsea, but the Italy international still made 44 appearances in all competitions last season.
He has also started both of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures so far this term, against Brighton and Liverpool.
This suggests that Jorginho is firmly part of Lampard’s plans for the 2020-21 campaign, despite the fact the club have brought in several new players over the summer.
However, Sky Sports News revealed on Thursday that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is interested in bringing the Italian to the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window closes on October 5.
Announcing the news, the Sky Sports host said: “Chelsea’s Jorginho is one of a number of midfielders that Arsenal are interested in. We didn’t see this one coming.”
It’s then noted that Arteta was Pep Guardiola’s assistant when Manchester City tried to sign Jorginho from Napoli two years ago.
Jorginho came close to agreeing a move to the Etihad Stadium but opted to reunite with Sarri in west London instead.
Arteta, it seems, is keeping close tabs on the midfielder and could make a formal move before October’s deadline.
The Gunners also remain interested in Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
Any of these three midfielders would cost a lot of money to sign but Arsenal are prepared to back Arteta in the transfer market, as we’ve already seen this summer.
Gabriel, Willian, Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares and Runar Alex Runarsson have all arrived in recent weeks.
Will Jorginho be next through the door at the Emirates?
