Leeds United are aiming high this season.

After winning the Championship by 10 points last season there was always going to be a positive feeling coming out of west Yorkshire as this season moved closer.

We didn't expect anything like this though.

After spending 16 years away from the Premier League the Whites are determined to make up for lost time as they look to hit the ground running.

They may have lost their first game of the season against Liverpool, but few could complain at scoring three goals against one of the best sides in world football.

Given that they followed this up with a victory over Fulham last week, Leeds appear to be back where they belong.

Credit has to be given to last season's first team squad who look set to play a big role for the club this time around.

However new additions were always going to be needed to take the club forward.

Robin Koch and Rodrigo both arrived earlier in the summer for big fees, while Diego Llorente will slot into the centre of defence once his deal is finalised.

However the issue of signing a creative midfielder remains.

Marcelo Bielsa is determined to add quality in wide positions with several names being linked over the course of the transfer window.

Ryan Kent is one of those who has been heavily linked with a move to the club.

The Rangers star is one of Steven Gerrard's prized assets at Ibrox after scoring eight goals and creating four last term.

Reports have suggested that the former Liverpool starlet has a release clause of £20million in his contract with the Scottish side, meaning that Leeds may have to pay up to get their man.

Football Insider have since claimed that the Whites are preparing a fresh move with that release clause in mind.

Whether any fresh offer will see them trigger the clause remains to be seen, but the ball seems to be firmly in Tottenham's court.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This one looks set to rumble on until the end of the transfer window.

Ryan Kent is a player of real quality and so it's no surprise that Leeds are so determined to sign the winger.

Steven Gerrard doesn't want to lose him; why would he? Kent is a top player.

But if Leeds are so determined to get their man then they might have to pay out to get the deal done.

£20million in today's market is not a hugely expensive fee, and if Marcelo Bielsa thinks that Kent is the man to take the club forward then they should move quickly to get it done.
