Chelsea have won the summer transfer window, there's no doubt about it.

After finishing fourth in the league last term many people patted Frank Lampard on the back for the excellent job that he did with such a young group of players.

Roman Abramovich was one of them, but plaudits don't last long in west London.

With no time for self-congratulations, Lampard got to work on the club's next brief which was to challenge for the Premier League title.

Other clubs seemed reluctant to spend money early on due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, but not Chelsea.

In fact, the Blues have enjoyed quite a shopping spree so far this summer.

Transfermarkt claim that Chelsea have spent a staggering £222million so far on deals for Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz and Edouard Mendy.

But if you thought they were done then it's time to think again.

Chelsea's final target of the summer transfer market is Declan Rice.

Reports claim that the Blues are interested in a move for the West Ham United man, who is valued at £44.55million by Transfermarkt.

In reality Rice could cost almost twice as much as that, with the Hammers determined to keep their star.

However Sky Sports Italia reporter Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the midfielder will ask to leave if the Blues make an offer.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano said: "Chelsea are trying to do the same [as Liverpool].

"'We want the big targets and not the plan B back up option'.

"If you talk with West Ham, you have to be honest they're saying the player is staying and the player is not moving.

"It won't be easy and Chelsea are now considering selling players.

"But Declan Rice will push to join Chelsea. He will go strongly to join Chelsea.

"We will have to see what will happen because he also respects West Ham as normal but he's going to tell West Ham 'I want to join Chelsea'.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This seems like a move that is gathering pace.

Chelsea have been on an absolute rampage so far this summer and it would take a brave person to bet against them stopping now.

It's no secret that Declan Rice is a player who is highly-rated by Frank Lampard, but it all depends on West Ham United and their plans.

The Hammers will be determined to keep hold of their star man, but can they stop him from being tempted by the Blues? Probably not.

Letting Rice leave would be a huge blow for David Moyes' side and given their current struggles it would send out an awful message to supporters about their ambitions.

It could go right to the wire and this is certainly a deal that I'll be watching closely.
