Chelsea have finally replaced Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Earlier this week, the club announced the signing of Edouard Mendy from Rennes for £22 million. He’s expected to replace the world’s most expensive goalkeeper and become Chelsea’s new No.1.

But how does he compare to other Premier League goalkeepers?

Well, after Mendy’s arrival, we’ve decided to rank every No.1 in the league from worst to best.

We’re pretty sure not everyone is going to wholly agree but, without further ado, here is our list:

20. Alex McCarthy (Southampton)

Capable of having a 10/10 performance and making some incredible saves but, as seen last week against Tottenham, also capable of just failing to make any saves. Don’t be surprised to see McCarthy dropped to the bench in the coming weeks and months with Angus Gunn and Fraser Forster waiting to deputise.

19. Illan Meslier (Leeds)

The 20-year-old has conceded seven in two matches. It’s perhaps too early to judge him solely on that but he needs to stop conceding so many.

18. Sam Johnstone (West Brom)

The former Manchester United academy graduate kept just 14 clean sheets last season. He could well be picking the ball out of his net on plenty of occasions this season.

17. Jordan Pickford (Everton)

Things are just going from bad to worse for Jordan Pickford. He’s next mistake will be soon.

16. Lukasz Fabianski (West Ham)

Lukasz Fabianski is now 35 and probably past his best. One thing is for sure, he’s better than Roberto.

15. Aaron Ramsdale (Sheffield United)

Aaron Ramsdale has replaced Dean Henderson at Bramall Lane but hasn’t started his Sheffield United career too strongly. We’re no goalkeeping experts but the 22-year-old doesn’t seem to move his feet very well when trying to make saves.

14. Vicente Guaita (Crystal Palace)

The 33-year-old Spaniard is pretty reliable for Crystal Palace in truth. Not the best goalkeeper in the world but mistakes are few and far between.

13. Mat Ryan (Brighton)

We think the Australian is one of the most underrated goalkeepers in the league. With a pretty decent defence in front of him, expect Brighton to register quite a few clean sheets this season.

12. Alphonse Areola (Fulham)

Alphonse Areola has his work cut out for him if he wants to keep Fulham in the Premier League. But having previously played for Real Madrid and Paris-Saint German, he has the quality to make the difference.

11. Martin Dubravka (Newcastle)

There’s no doubt Dubravka is one of the best shot-stoppers in the league and has been for a few years now. If he can cut out his mistakes, he’d definitely make the top 10.

10. Edouard Mendy (Chelsea)

Well, he can’t be worse than Kepa Arrizabalaga, can he?

9. Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)

Aston Villa splashed £20 million on Emiliano Martínez in the summer and it’s already looking like money well spent after his penalty save against Sheffield United.

8. David de Gea (Manchester United)

There was a time when David de Gea was one of the best goalkeepers in world football. Now, he’s the 8th best in the Premier League. Time for Dean Henderson?

7. Bernd Leno (Arsenal)

Bernd Leno has improved hugely under Mikel Arteta and the fact Arsenal were happy to sell Martinez shows just how much they rate Leno. But we don’t quite think he’s world-class.

6. Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City)

Kasper Schmeichel is no longer referred to as Peter Schmeichel’s son which is the biggest compliment we can pay him. He’s established himself as a brilliant goalkeeper in his own right.

5. Hugo Lloris (Tottenham)

There are definitely some black spots in Hugo Lloris’ ability but the Spurs captain is a World Cup winner and is a fantastic goalkeeper on his day. Lloris had a save percentage of 79.6% last season - the most of any goalkeeper.

4. Rui Patricio (Wolves)

Wolves kept plenty of clean sheet towards the end of last season as they reached the latter stages of the Europa League and finished seventh again. He’s 32 now but he’s still class.

3. Nick Pope (Burnley)

England’s No.1? He should be. He came very close to winning the Premier League Golden Glove award last season and is definitely one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

2. Ederson (Manchester City)

Ederson has proven to be an incredible signing for just £35m back in 2017. His distribution is second to none but he isn’t quite the best Brazilian goalkeeper in the Premier League…

1. Alisson (Liverpool)

That’s because Premier League champion, Alisson, is the best in the league. The odd mistake may creep in but he’s given the entire defence so much confidence and has been a huge part of their recent success.
