Neal Maupay performed Kylian Mbappe’s iconic ‘crying’ celebration after giving Brighton the lead against Manchester United on Saturday. The French striker converted a delicious Panenka penalty in the 40th minute before wheeling away and performing the routine, which was made famous by Mbappe last year. It’s a troll’s favourite celebration, and it will no doubt be responsible for many smashed controllers after being introduced to FIFA 21.But in Maupay’s case, the Brighton forward might feel as though the 40th minute wasn’t the best time to pull out the move. The Seagulls ended up losing 3-2 to Man United and it was Maupay’s handball late on that led to Bruno Fernandes’ match-winning penalty. You should probably wait until the three points are in the bag in future, Neal. There’s a time and a place for the ‘crying’ celebration. It’s not the first time that players have been left with egg on their face after flexing on Man United. And it’s not just players that have been punished. We’re looking at you, Alan Pardew.Alan PardewFormer Crystal Palace manager Pardew became an instant GIF after he celebrated Jason Puncheon’s opening goal in the 2016 with the ultimate show of dad dancing.
Honestly, what on earth was he thinking?
Palace’s lead lasted just three minutes and Jesse Lingard scored in extra-time to hand Man United the trophy.
Angel Di Maria
In fairness to Di Maria, this was a funny move.
In his return to Man United with PSG in the Champions League in 2019, the Argentinian, booed by the home crowd following his difficult spell at Old Trafford, picked up a bottle of beer that had been thrown at him and pretended to drink it.
The evening was a cause for celebration for Di Maria and PSG, who headed back to Paris with a 2-0 advantage.
But in the return fixture, the Red Devils prevailed 3-1 thanks to a late Marcus Rashford penalty to send Di Maria packing.
Dele Alli
Man United went a goal down to Tottenham in the 2018 FA Cup semi-final through Dele Alli’s finish in the 11th minute.
The Spurs midfielder proceeded to celebrate by performing the ‘Floss’, a dance move that Fortnite players will be very familiar with.
Should’ve just kept it casual, Dele. Alexis Sanchez equalised 13 minutes later and Ander Herrera scored in the second half to send United through to the final.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo made his name at Man United but he had no qualms about celebrating against them after scoring for Juventus in 2018.
The Portuguese star lifted up his shirt to show off his ripped figure.
Ronaldo did apologise to the visiting supporters once he finished celebrating, but a fire had already been lit within Jose Mourinho’s side.
They performed a miraculous comeback thanks to Juan Mata’s free-kick and Leonardo Bonucci’s own goal to seal a 2-1 win and leave Ronaldo tasting defeat.
West Brom
West Brom were accused of being tasteless after posting a tweet about Marouane Fellaini before he was brought on as a substitute in a 2014 clash.
"Fellaini has now taken his tracksuit off, fortunately he has a Man Utd strip on underneath #WBAMUN,” the tweet read.
Four minutes later, Fellaini scored for Louis van Gaal’s side. Ouch.
