Before Saturday, West Ham’s Issa Diop was the last outfield player to make a mistake on his Premier League debut.The French centre-back erred on his first top flight outing against Arsenal in August 2018.Then Thiago Silva turned up.Chelsea’s summer signing slipped up in the Blues’ 3-3 draw against West Brom, failing to control a simple pass and giving Callum Robinson a chance to score.It was a chance that Robinson would take, and all of a sudden Silva joined a long, long list of players to make an error leading to a goal in the Premier League.
Silva has quickly found out that in the Premier League, mistakes are very likely to be capitalised upon.
The quality of the players means an accidental error or a lapse in concentration will be punished.
Silva will hope that his first error in a Chelsea shirt is his last one, or he’ll slowly creep up the table of the players with the most errors leading to goal in the top flight.
