Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho walked down the tunnel before the full-time whistle after Newcastle United were awarded a controversial penalty in the closing minutes of a dramatic contest in London.Mourinho's assistant Joao Sacramento was also shown a red card after the whistle was blown as Spurs reacted angrily to proceedings in north London.Newcastle were given a penalty after Eric Dier was adjudged to have handled inside the Spurs' area.It was a very harsh call, though. Dier couldn't even see the ball when it ricocheted off his arm inside the Tottenham area.
The controversy followed the penalty drama in Everton's win at Crystal Palace on Saturday, when Joel Ward was harshly penalised after the ball struck his hand.
What happened at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will only exacerbate the current feeling of frustration towards the controversial handball rule.
Indeed, Spurs boss Mourinho didn't even bother to see out the final whistle.
He headed up the tunnel after Callum Wilson scored the ensuing penalty.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was furious with the call, demanding a change to the handball rule.
"It's an absolute disgrace. An absolute joke," Carragher said of the new rule that has been brought in for this season, per Sky Sports' website.
"Newcastle fans will be ecstatic, I can understand that but everyone else in this country will say exactly what I'm saying.
"Eric Dier jumps for the ball, has no control of where his arms are going to be, it was a header half a yard away from him, hits him on the back of his arm, he has no idea what's going on. This is a joke.
"Whether it's the Premier League, the FA, FIFA, Pierluigi Collina, whoever is involved in this, stop it, because you're ruining football for everybody. Absolute joke.
"You've got more trouble on your hands Premier League, FIFA, UEFA, whoever is involved. Change this now!"
