It’s fair to say Luis Suarez has hit the ground running at Atletico Madrid.Suarez came on during Atleti’s La Liga clash against Granada with Diego Simeone’s side already 3-0 ahead.Within two minutes, Suarez had registered a brilliant assist for Marcos Llorente. By full-time, he had also scored twice as Atletico Madrid claimed a 6-1 win.Not bad.Already, football fans are wondering why on earth Barcelona have allowed him to leave for a La Liga rival.
Earlier in the match, Diego Costa had given the home side a sixth-minute lead before he made way for Suarez.
A lot has been made of the potential strike partnership of Suarez and Costa - two of the most controversial figures in world football.
They may not start upfront alongside each other too often but imagine when they do. You would not want to be a defender facing them both.
Especially after Costa’s comments when asked about their partnership, anyway.
“It's really good,” Costa replied when questioned on his potential partnership with Suarez.
“One of us bites and the other kicks.”
Brilliant.
He is, of course, referring to Suarez’s previous misdemeanours with the Uruguayan being found guilty on biting an opponent on three separate incidents.
The first one came back in 2010 when he was suspended for seven games for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal on the shoulder while playing for Ajax.
The next came for Liverpool in 2013, when he was banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic on the arm.
Then came the most famous one, when he bit Giorgio Chiellini in the 2014 World Cup during Uruguay vs Italy.
As for Costa, well he’s been involved in too many controversial incidents in the past to name.
Watching Atletico Madrid with Costa and Suarez upfront this season is going to be A LOT of fun.
Maybe less so for defenders…
