‘The Big Dog,’ now referred to as the Tribal Chief, produced arguably one of the most compelling and strongest performances of his WWE career this past Sunday at ‘Clash of Champions’ by delivering a brutal beat down of his real life cousin Jey Uso.

Indeed, fans across Twitter quite rightly praised Reigns’ performance, with one even saying: “We just saw some of WWE’s best storytelling of the last decade in that main event. Roman Reigns couldn’t feel more of a top guy. Incredible.”

Another, meanwhile, claimed: “Roman Reigns is now the best heel in WWE.”

While the result of the match proved to be predictable, it certainly over-delivered when it came to establishing Reigns as the heel that the entire WWE Universe thought he could be.

Reigns made a surprise return at SummerSlam back in August, debuting as a solo heel for the first time.

‘The Big Dog’ subsequently captured the Universal Title within a week of his comeback, defeating The Fiend and Braun Strowman at Payback.

Alongside his new advisor Paul Heyman, who is mainly associated with being the manager of Brock Lesnar, Reigns has undergone an impressive character transformation.

This was epitomised at Clash of Champions when he debuted his new shirtless look and got rid of his SWAT attire, which he has been synonymous with since his Shield days.

What followed was a performance befitting of the superstar that WWE and Vince McMahon always wanted him to be, albeit with a lot more attitude and far away from the face gimmick they had dreamt of.

It also goes someway to redeem the rather disappointing match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 back in 2017. That match was meant to be Reigns’ big launch pad and signify ‘The Deadman’ passing the torch to the new generation. Sadly, this did not transpire the way that WWE wanted.

Instead, rather than a big name main eventer, it took a wrestler who predominantly is known as a tag-team rather than a singles competitor to bring out the best of Reigns.

It also ensured Jey Uso had his breakout performance as a singles wrestler.

The main event ended with a brutal beat down from the now Tribal Chief, which resulted in Jey’s twin brother Jimmy Uso coming down to the ring and throwing in the towel and telling Reigns what he ultimately wanted to hear, that he was the Tribal Chief.

Hopefully this will be the first of many memorable heel moments that Reigns will be a part of on SmackDown in the weeks and months to come.
