Torquay manager Paul Buckle is hoping his side's luck will turn on the final day of the season in order for them to grasp a play-off place following another npower League Two stalemate against promoted Chesterfield.

An end-to-end contest at Plainmoor finished goalless and marked the Gulls' third consecutive 0-0 draw at home, extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches.

"We still have a tough game to come at Rotherham but I think that a team with our record deserves to grace the play-offs," said Buckle, whose side lie sixth on 68 points, ahead of rivals Stevenage and Gillingham on goal difference before their weekend fixtures.

"Chesterfield are top of the table, promoted and showed why they are up there because they came at us and were always dangerous and both sides gave it everything."

Guy Branston struck the upright in each half to add to Buckle's exasperation.

"I think we have hit the woodwork 33 times now (this season) and that must be some kind of record.

"I just don't know how we haven't managed to hit the back of the net in these last three home games but our chances created are in double figures every game.

"I cannot ask for any more from the players and I honestly don't think they can give much more. We are not getting that little bit of luck that you need but maybe that is waiting around the corner for us.

"I really hope that we get into the play offs because you could see we can more than match the top teams and when the fans turn out like they did then this place is rocking.

"I have had some great times here as Torquay manager and this was another one of those great nights."
