However, they were brought down a peg or two again on Sunday when they drew with Newcastle.
Of course, they should have won. Deep in injury time, the game was all but wrapped up following Lucas Moura's first-half goal.
Step forward VAR and the nonsensical handball law. The ball struck Eric Dier's arm in the penalty area, not deliberately, but a penalty was awarded.
Callum Wilson stepped up and scored it to make sure that the points were shared between Tottenham and the Magpies.
Spurs have now only taken four points from their opening three games, so perhaps they could do with some added invention in the transfer market.

A few months ago we heard reports of interest in Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar. It was thought that any deal could include Tanguy Ndombele in the deal.
Though, he looks to have saved his Spurs career in recent weeks and could be held onto.
The last in this saga is that Daniel Levy is preparing a bid for the Slovakian, with the hope of making him one of their most expensive transfers in history.
According to The Guardian, the two parties still remains some way off in their valuation of the player, and thus, Spurs are weighing up what to do next.
Inter want a fee of £55m in order to let Skriniar leave, but at the moment, Tottenham are only prepared to pay €35m (£31.7m). Clearly, they will need to make an improved offer.

Spurs are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this season and their defensive record under Mourinho points to a team who could do with some additions to their backline.
Of course, they've signed Sergio Reguilon and Matt Doherty, but another centre-back option would go down a treat. After all, Jan Vertonghen departed in the summer and has left a gap that needs filling.
Skriniar would be perfect. Compared to Alessandro Nesta for his form in Serie A, the 25-year-old is one of the best emerging defenders in the game.
The defender completed over 92% of his passes last season, summing up his qualities as a modern-day centre-half.
Fortunately, he's not shy of making a robust challenge either. In the Champions League last term, Skriniar made 2.5 successful tackles a match.
Considering Eric Dier has been charged with playing as a centre-back in 2020/21, it's evident that a defender is needed. Signing one as strong as Skriniar is certainly a very good idea.
