Tottenham Hotspur aren't finished in the transfer market yet.

Despite making five major additions already this summer it seems that the north London side are targeting more.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty all joined the club earlier in the summer, before a double deal for Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale was also wrapped up.

A move for a striker is seen as a real priority, however the addition of a central defender is also key.

The club have been short of quality since Jan Vertonghen left at the end of last season and so Spurs are looking at potential targets.

A move for Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan is reportedly being pursued to fill that gap, and according to Alasdair Gold of Football London, it's a deal that is proving tricky to negotiate.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold said: "Obviously, one very clear target they’ve got is Milan Skriniar.

"As I understand it, Spurs have been told the price from Inter Milan is £45 million.

"Tottenham are really only willing to go up to £32 million with add-ons, to try and make it more enticing.

“The player wants to come to Tottenham, he wants to link up with Mourinho. It's a strange situation for him, he was first-choice for Inter for much of last season until the restart.

“After the restart, Antonio Conte just didn’t really seem to fancy him. There’s been a bit of posturing in the last couple of days.

“We’ve seen the technical performance director of Spurs, Steve Hitchen, was over there trying to do a deal for him. Spurs offered various players including Juan Foyth as part of the deal.

“We saw this posturing [last] weekend, the sporting director came out and said ‘he’s not for sale’, and then Antonio Conte came out after their match and went, ‘he’s not for sale but we could kind of do with a bit of money for our own transfers’.

“It was all very much, ‘pay our price tag, or you’re not getting him’. That’s not closed off at this moment, Spurs will keep going on that.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is a deal that could go right to the wire.

Tottenham are desperate to sign a defender this summer as Jose Mourinho looks to add some solidity to his back line.

Milan Skriniar would certainly bring that.

Valued at £45million by Transfermarkt, a move for the Slovakian star will not come cheap.

Described as being 'part of the project' by Antonio Conte, Skriniar has fallen down the pecking order with Inter Milan but it seems that they're determined to keep the defender.

That may just be a ploy to attract the highest transfer fee possible, but it's certainly making for a nervy end to the transfer window in north London.
