Tottenham's start to the new season has been an absolute whirlwind.

After an opening weekend defeat to Everton, they went out and not only signed one, but two Real Madrid players.

Of course, one of them was Gareth Bale.

His return to north London has been met with elation, but his current injury means we won't see him take to the field until mid-October.

For Spurs, that will be welcome, especially now with Heung-min Son out injured. The South Korean scored four goals in the win over Southampton but had to come off at half-time against Newcastle because of a hamstring injury.

It's been a topsy-turvy period for Jose Mourinho's men who have achieved every single result possible in their opening three matches of the new season.

However, nothing has been tougher to take than the handball decision on Eric Dier. The less said about that the better.

Despite their mass activity in the transfer window to date, Tottenham are still interested in bringing in new players.

According to Sky Sports, Spurs are eyeing a move for Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger.

The German has been considering his future after falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and as a result, he could move across London this summer.

Rudiger wants a move away in order to secure more game time ahead of the European Championships but it's not specified how much the 27-year-old would cost Daniel Levy and co.

Transfermarkt rate the player at £36m so he may not come cheap.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

With Tottenham having to rely on Eric Dier as Davinson Sanchez's defensive partner at the moment, it couldn't be more clear that Spurs need to sign another defender.

Rudiger would represent an ideal option at this stage of the window. He is available and has Premier League experience, featuring 80 times in the English top-flight.

On top of that, he has been deemed "a man for a crisis" by pundit Garth Crooks. Spurs may not be in a crisis just yet, but their defence needs desperately improving.

The Londoners have conceded 54 goals in 40 matches since Jose Mourinho took over and they are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this term.

Could Rudiger be the answer? Well, he had an "outstanding" season in 2018/19, so Spurs will know he can perform to a high level in the Premier League.

During that campaign, he won 2.5 aerial duels per match and completed over 91% of his passes. When he wants to be, Rudiger is a man to rely on. He just needs to do it on a consistent basis.
