It may ‘only’ have been the Carabao Cup but Tottenham vs Chelsea in the fourth round of the competition was pretty tasty.Unsurprisingly, Jose Mourinho made changes to his Spurs side having played 48 hours previously against Newcastle and with another fixture in 48 hours time against Maccabi Haifa.However, it’s Spurs who will be progressing to the quarter-finals after beating Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in a penalty shootout.Timo Werner had put the visitors 1-0 ahead in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with his first Chelsea goal.It looked as though Lampard was about to beat Mourinho for a fourth time.However, you could tell just how desperate the Portuguese was to finally register a win against his former player.And in first-half, that desperation was evident for all to see as Mourinho and Lampard clashed on the touchline.
It was reported that Mourinho said to Lampard: “F***ing hell Frank, when you're losing 3-0 you're not standing up here.”
What exactly did he mean by that?
Well, it turns out he was referring to Lampard’s behaviour when Chelsea were 3-0 down to West Brom on Saturday.
After the match, Mourinho said: “With Frank the most important thing are my feelings to him are more important than any words that we exchange.
"He gave me everything he had as a player so I never forget that.
"My feelings will always be what I love him as a player, friend and professional. The only thing I said was an opinion of an old coach to a young, talented coach. Which was when they players need us is when they are losing.
“When they are winning we don’t need to be the protagonist of the touchline.
"In the last match when they were losing three-nil I felt sorry for him because he was really sad and quiet in his chair. In terms of football I have nothing to teach him.
“It was just an opinion. Stay on the touchline when your team is losing and stay calm when your team is winning.”
However, Lampard was quick to play down the squabble revealing that he only told Mourinho to concentrate on his own player, rather than the referee.
Lampard said: “We were having some fun, I get on well with Jose.
"I was saying he speaks to the referee more than his players, I have huge respect for Jose.
"All was well at the end and that will never change.”
