Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp took offence to Roy Keane describing his side as “sloppy” in the aftermath of Monday night’s 3-1 win over Arsenal.Klopp overheard Keane, who was providing analysis on the game for Sky Sports, and called out the Manchester United legend live on air.“I’m not sure I heard it right,” Klopp said. “Maybe he was talking about another game. Cannot be this game, sorry. That’s an incredible description of this game. That was absolutely exceptional - nothing was sloppy. Absolutely nothing. From the first second dominant against a team in form.”It’s true that Arsenal threatened Liverpool on several occasions and could easily have scored more than one goal on the evening.If Alexandre Lacazette had finished a one-on-one in the second half, when Liverpool were only 2-1 up, perhaps it would have been a different story.
However, Diogo Jota’s goal two minutes before full-time ensured Liverpool ended the night with all three points.Klopp was full of praise for his side’s performance and a one-minute video has emerged showing his players’ pressing on the night was nothing short of outstanding.Watch it here…
One of the pundits says over the footage: “It’s part of the game that top players don’t want to do - particularly when you’re champions and have won everything in the last couple of years. But this continues to be so impressive.
“Just imagine how hard it is for Arsenal to get the ball down and combine, to build up, because anything loose… look at how many red shirts are attracted to the ball, they snuff it out and end up winning possession back.”
Another pundit comments: “In some teams there are some players to win the ball back. Then you have your skillful players and it’s like ‘when we win it back, we’ll give it to them’.
“Liverpool, every player does it at the same level, that’s the most unique and impressive thing.
“Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Bobby Firmino are probably as good at it as anyone else on the team.”
The footage is certainly impressive and provides another reminder of the outstanding coaching job Klopp has done with his current squad at Anfield.
Most modern managers want their players to press with intensity high up the pitch - but few teams do it as effectively as Klopp’s men.
