Celtic face their biggest challenge in a decade this season.

After dominating Scottish football in recent years the Bhoys are embroiled in a fierce battle to secure the title this term.

Rangers have had their own struggles of late but this season it appears that Steven Gerrard's side are the real deal.

Celtic are undoubtedly favourites to win the title - an achievement which would secure them a place in football folklore.

Last term Neil Lennon's side won the league for the ninth time, meaning that victory this time around would make it 10-in-a-row.

But winning the league is far from a foregone conclusion.

If Celtic are to beat their bitter rivals this term then they will still need to strengthen further.

Deals have already been completed for Vasilios Barkas, Albian Ajeti, Shane Duffy and David Turnbull.

However one position is still being targeted.

The role of left-back has been a top priority since earlier this summer when Boli Bolingoli's self-isolation breach landed him in hot water.

Since then Nick Hammond has been scouring the market for players who could slot into Lennon's side.

Names including Alfie Doughty, Barry Douglas and Niclas Eliasson have all been linked with a move, however a fresh target has emerged.

Reports from The Herald have claimed that Celtic are keen on a move for Ryan Sessegnon.

The Tottenham Hotspur starlet faces an uncertain future in north London after failing to truly break into the plans of Jose Mourinho.

At 20 years of age Sessegnon is very much a player for the future, but put simply he needs to playing regular first team football.

It's claimed that Celtic are plotting a move to bring him to Parkhead on a season-long loan deal that would offer him the opportunity to perform week in, week out.

The Bhoys face competition, however, with Brighton, Southampton and even Leeds United being linked with a loan switch before the transfer window slams shut.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

What a coup this transfer would be for Celtic.

Ryan Sessegnon is one of the hottest prospects in British football, but he's at a pivotal stage in his development.

Put simply, the Tottenham youngster needs to be playing regular first team football.

Described as 'a sensation' by former boss Slavisa Jokanovic, Sessegnon would be a top addition.

A left wing-back in the truest sense of the word, the former Fulham man would be a huge asset to Neil Lennon's side as his pace and attacking instinct would cause plenty of problems.

Valued at £22.5million by Transfermarkt, the opportunity to play at Parkhead could be the perfect destination to help to develop, and for me this is a deal that would be ideal for all involved.
