What a frustrating summer it has been for Manchester United.

After finishing third in the Premier League last term it seemed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were ready to kick on this term.

The slow rebuilding of the first team squad has certainly improved things over the last 12 months with players such as Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes establishing themselves as key players for the Red Devils.

But supporters in Manchester know that they have to kick on this summer if they're to continue improving.

Liverpool and Manchester City were head and shoulders above Solskjaer's side last term and that's why there's been such a focus on strengthening the squad of players in order to close that gap.

Unfortunately things haven't quite gone to plan.

With a number of players on significant wages struggling to secure deals elsewhere, it seems to have limited United's transfer activity.

Donny Van de Beek arrived at the club for a fee of £35million from Ajax, but other than that it's been slim-pickings in terms of incomings.

Several other players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but one man in particular has dominated the headlines.

Surprise, surprise - we're talking about Jadon Sancho.

Valued at £105.3million by Transfermarkt, the Borussia Dortmund starlet is one of the hottest properties in world football and has been linked with a big-money move to Old Trafford this summer.

Talks are said to have been going on for much of the summer, but no form of breakthrough has ever materialised.

According to reports, that might be about to change.

Reports from the Scottish Sun have claimed that Dortmund may be about to lower their asking price for the player.

The German giants have been holding out for a fee of £108million to sign the talented England international, however United's offer of £91.3million was rejected.

But those reports claim that a deal of just £95million could be enough to get the deal over the line.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Could this transfer saga finally be coming to an end?

I can't remember a time when football fans weren't talking about the prospect of Jadon Sancho heading to Old Trafford.

It seemed that a move was off the cards with Borussia Dortmund holding out for a huge asking price.

In fairness, you can't blame them when you have one of the best young talents in world football on your books.

Man United are desperate to sign him, and that might be where a breakthrough is made.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have endured a frustrating summer window, but they know that a deal for Sancho would be enough to deem it a success.

If they can meet the German giants in the middle then it will be a great outcome for all parties.
