Manchester United face a crucial few days in the transfer market.

After a frustrating summer it's time for the club to click into gear and sign the players that they need to kick on this term.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side finished third in the Premier League last term - a decent return after a mixed campaign all-round.

But the focus this term has to be on challenging for the title.

Liverpool and Manchester City have dominated things over the last couple of seasons but United will be determined to gatecrash the party.

Unfortunately the transfer window hasn't quite gone to plan so far.

Donny Van de Beek is the only player to arrive at the club this summer, and while he's an excellent addition, supporters will have wanted more.

Jadon Sancho is one player that the club have been targeting, but with Man United's latest bid being rejected by Borussia Dortmund it seems that their focus is now elsewhere.

According to reports, Ousmane Dembele could now be a priority.

It's been claimed that United are pursuing a loan deal for the Barcelona star who faces an uncertain future at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona are hoping to offload the player on a permanent basis, however it seems that Solskjaer's side are only interested in a short-term switch.

While a breakthrough is yet to be reached, talks are said to be progressing with Angelo Mangiante of Sky Sports claiming that a deal is getting 'closer'.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

It's going to be a fascinating few days at Old Trafford.

After such a disappointing transfer window so far the pressure is really on for Manchester United to kick on.

A deal for Ousmane Dembele would certainly do that.

Valued at £50.4million by Transfermarkt, the Barcelona star has the potential to be an absolute game-changer at Old Trafford.

Okay, things haven't worked out as he'd wish at the Nou Camp, but a lot of that can be put down to his injury issues.

Of course this move could depend on Jadon Sancho.

The Borussia Dortmund star is clearly the club's first choice target but getting a deal done would be a huge ask.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is leaving clubs strapped for cash this summer and that could be a major obstacle in getting a deal done.

But as Man United get more and more desperate to get some business done, the more likely it is for them to splash out.
