Leeds agree personal terms with Championship talent

Todd Cantwell

Leeds are well set for a frantic end to the summer transfer window.

Victor Orta has already welcomed 11 new signings through the door but that's poised to increase in the coming days.

A deal for Bayern midfielder Michael Cuisance is as good as done, while there could be one or two other new arrivals.

Leeds are targeting a winger and have been linked with a plethora of options in the last few days.

Dan James has been mentioned while it's claimed that they'll pursue Ryan Kent if the Manchester United winger is unavailable.

Another name to be linked is FC Utrecht's Gyrano Kerk. It's fair to say that Orta has done his fair share of scouting over the last few months.

If you believe reports, another defender has also been thought about with Daniele Rugani being touted with a move to Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa

However, the focus for now, is on signing someone from the Championship

Todd Cantwell has become a genuine option for the Whites in the last few weeks and it now looks as though they're closing in a switch for the youngster.

That's according to journalist Nicolo Schira who took to Twitter to bring everyone up to speed on the latest.

He tweeted: "Leeds are in advanced talks for Todd Cantwell. Offered €18m to Norwich. The midfielder has agreed personal terms with LUFC."

To convert that into English money, that's a fee of around £16.4m.

Cantwell is one of the best young players in the Championship and shone in the Premier League for the Canaries last term.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Providing Cantwell is used in the right area then this could be an inspired piece of business by the Whites.

The first thing to note is his versatility. Capable of playing on the right-wing and also through the middle, he offers a threat all over the pitch - something Marcelo Bielsa would love.

However, his best position is on the left-wing. He scored five goals and contributed two assists from that role last term, adding two further strikes when playing on the right.

He plays a little further back than the average winger and as a result, resembles Jack Harrison somewhat.

The Manchester City loanee has embarked on his third spell with the Whites and has become a favourite of Bielsa. He has barely missed a game so competition would certainly be no bad thing.

In terms of their style, they are also similar. Harrison registered 2.5 unsuccessful touches last term in the Championship, compared to the three managed by Cantwell this season.

Their dribbling ability is strikingly similar as well. The Norwich winger achieved a tally of 1.3 successful dribbles last season, compared to Harrison's record of 1.8

Described as a "terrific talent" by Chris Sutton, you can certainly see why Bielsa wants another Harrison-type player in this squad.
