Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed an excellent summer transfer window so far.

After finishing in sixth place in the Premier League last term it was always going to take a big effort to try and get the club back on track.

Jose Mourinho took over as manager and was tasked with securing a top four finish for the club and challenging for a major trophy.

But if he is to meet those objectives then the squad were going to need to be strengthened.

Without Champions League football it was always going to be tough to attract the best players in the world to north London, but Spurs have done relatively well in that department.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty were all relatively solid additions after arriving from Southampton, Burnley and Wolves respectively.

However the signings of Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale were deals which really signalled their ambitions.

The Real Madrid duo among the most recognised players in Europe and so to attract both to the club was a major coup.

But with those deals done it's time to focus on what's next.

Tottenham are looking at signing a striker before the transfer window closes, while a move for a defender is also a priority.

Several names have been linked, most notably Milan Skriniar.

The Inter Milan defender could be available after falling out of favour under Antonio Conte at the San Siro, and while a deal has not yet been agreed, Tottenham expert Ricky Sacks believes that the Slovakian colossus is keen on making the move.

Speaking onTottenham Fan Chris Cowlin's YouTube channel, Sacks said: "There’s still a lot to play out I think, we’re not at a point yet where medicals are taking place.

"As we understand, the player has already consented that he wants to join Tottenham.

“He’s agreed upon that, he wants to join Jose Mourinho’s side, he’s a big, big fan of Mourinho. I think he likes the idea of coming to London, playing at a club like Tottenham.

“Everything points towards a positive conclusion provided we can get the negotiations sorted and get the fee agreed.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would be a cracking deal for Tottenham Hotspur.

Milan Skriniar is exactly the sort of dominant defender that will relish working under Jose Mourinho.

Valued at £45million by Transfermarkt, the Inter Milan star seems to be cut out for life in the Premier League with his physicality being a major strength.

It remains to be seen whether the Italian side will grant the player a move to north London, but if he's out of favour then there's no reason why they shouldn't.

Providing Spurs match their valuation, I'd fully expect this deal to happen.
