Arsenal are preparing for a big few days in the transfer window.

The Gunners are in the middle of a big rebuilding job at the moment as they look to form a squad of players who can push towards the top end of the table.

Mikel Arteta's appointment as manager as certainly changed the culture around the club, and that in part has been down the work done with the playing squad.

Alongside technical director Edu, Arsenal are looking to offload various players in order to fund the addition of stars who could become central figures at the Emirates Stadium.

So far the club have signed Willian and Cedric Soares on free transfers, as well as Runar Alex Runarsson and Pablo Mari for modest fees.

The only real big-money signing so far has been for Gabriel Magalhaes who arrived at the club from Lille.

But Arsenal aren't finished yet.

Reports have suggested that the Gunners are targeting a move for Houssem Aouar.

The Lyon midfielder is being tipped as the missing piece of the jigsaw for Arteta and Arsenal.

At 22 years of age, Aouar is a player with his best years ahead of him and according to David Ornstein, he's a player that could make the move due to Lyon's financial situation.

Speaking on The Athletic’s Ornstein and Chapman Podcast, Ornstein said: “I understand [Aouar] would like to come to Arsenal and that negotiations have been very cordial between the two Brazilians, Arsenal’s technical director Edu and Lyon’s sporting director Juninho.

“There have been a lot of public comments from Jean-Michel Aulas, the Lyon president, but I don’t think that has disrupted things behind the scenes.

“It’s whether Lyon, who are in a pretty sticky financial situation and I’m told that they need to sell, accept what Arsenal are able to propose.

“I don’t know exactly what Arsenal’s financial situation is going into this final week and whether it’s contingent on freeing up space in the squad and also finances, but that’s going to be a really interesting one.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Arsenal supporters would absolutely love to get this deal done.

Houssem Aouar is one of the top players in France's Ligue 1 at present and so it's no surprise that he's attracting interest.

Lyon are struggling financially at the moment and that's the reason why this is a deal that could come to fruition.

Valued at £44.55million by Transfermarkt, Aouar is not a player who will come cheap.

The Gunners aren't exactly flush with cash this summer either, and so striking a deal for him could prove troublesome.

Funding the deal could depend on whether Arsenal are able to offload some fringe players, but what we do know is that this would be a very exciting addition if it was to come off.
