West Brom in talks to sign Premier League forward

Slaven Bilic and Romaine Sawyers

Despite West Brom's lack of finances, they've actually had quite a productive summer.

They stole Grady Diangana from West Ham and secured the permanent addition of Matheus Pereira, someone who set the Championship alight last season.

Callum Robinson also returned to the club and helped himself to a brace in an impressive display against Chelsea.

Although they drew the game 3-3 after being three goals up, there are plenty of reasons to be positive, certainly in terms of how they've done off the field.

Conor Gallagher arrived on loan a few weeks ago and their latest addition is another player from their triumphant promotion-winning squad - Filip Krovinovic.

However, they could still do with one or two more signings.

Slaven Bilic has made it no secret that he wants to add another striker before the window closes and he could be closing in one with just a matter of days left in the market.

According to Express & Star, West Brom have now held talks with another Premier League club.

That happens to be Leicester, who could sell out of favour striker Islam Slimani to the Baggies.

It's understood that discussions have taken place between the parties and a deal is now trying to be arranged.

Slimani is low down on their list of priorities but they may have to settle for the Algerian if they can't get their number one target, Karlan Grant.

The 32-year-old is currently valued at £5.8m, via Transfermarkt, so wouldn't cost Luke Dowling and co the earth.

West Brom are considering several other options too.

You can see why Grant is their favoured choice. He netted 19 goals last season which is a tally that sits ahead of plenty of their other attacking targets.

West Brom have also considered moves for the less than prolific pair of Troy Deeney and Andre Gray, while Habib Diallo at Metz is another player that Albion are keen on.

Although Slimani bagged nine goals in Ligue 1 for Monaco last term, it's hard to see him being a great success at the Hawthorns.

Described as a "constant danger" by L'Equipe during his spell in France, he has been anything but that in English football.

After Leicester paid a club-record fee at the time of £29m, he went onto score just 13 times in 46 outings.

Slimani has been unable to adapt to English football and subsequent loan spells tell the story of a player who has become a huge outcast at the King Power Stadium.

A move across the Midlands could well rejuvenate his career but West Brom will have to overcome the obstacle of his colossal wages.

He's currently on £80k-a-week at Leicester so the Baggies will surely need the attacker to take a wage cut if he moves.
