Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a spectacular transfer window.
Daniel Levy, the club’s chairman, has pulled off something of a blinder in these challenging times, throwing his full backing behind manager Jose Mourinho and bringing in the players that he has identified.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg comes in and strengthens the midfield, Matt Doherty is an excellent right-back option, Joe Hart is an experienced, homegrown back-up option to Hugo Lloris, Sergio Reguilon was one of the best left-backs in Spain last season with Sevilla and Gareth Bale is, well, Gareth Bale.
Spurs have yet to end their window, though, and are pressing ahead with attempting to sign a new striker.
Harry Kane has long been the club’s only forward option, relied upon in pretty much every game, fitness permitting.
When he has been injured, Son Heung-Min has been forced to play in an unfamiliar striking role.
With Troy Parrott allowed to move on loan to Millwall, there is a gap in the squad behind Kane and a deal to bring in a forward needs to be done before next week’s transfer deadline.
And it appears that it is in hand, with Sport Witness carrying a report from Portuguese newspaper Record claiming that Carlos Vinicius is closing in on a loan move to north London.
The report claims that he is set to undergo a medical on Thursday, with Spurs paying €3 million (£2.7m) to bring him in on loan, while they hold the option to sign him at the end of the season for a fee of €40m (£36.4m).
Vinicius was in excellent form for Benfica last season, scoring 24 goals in 47 appearances, while also registering 13 assists.

Mendes’ Gestifute agency represents Vinicius, who will offer a different option up front behind Kane, who has been overworked in recent seasons.
He also looks after Doherty, who moved earlier this summer, and one feels that the relationship between the pair is paying dividends.
Spurs have not had a back-up striker since Fernando Llorente left at the end of the 2018/19 season, so Vinicius will be something approaching manna from heaven for Mourinho.
Finally, he has the option to play a different striker in cup games, or a striker to bring on and switch things up should a game be going against them.
It is another part of the puzzle completed by Levy, who continues to make excellent decisions in this transfer window.
