Xherdan Shaqiri has endured rather an odd career.

The Switzerland international has played for some of the top clubs in European football and his CV is enviable.

He began his career at FC Basel, and then moved on to Bayern Munich, before playing for Inter Milan, Stoke City and now Liverpool.

He has won the league in Switzerland, Germany, and England. He has won the Champions League twice.

And yet, at Anfield, he does not seem to be in Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

He has not been in the squad for any of the Premier League games this term, and has only featured in the third round of the EFL Cup against Lincoln City, scoring in a 7-2 victory.

Last season, he made 11 appearances in all competitions; he had just two starts in the Premier League.

So it appears that an exit is inevitable, especially after Shaqiri was not included in the EFL Cup squad to play Arsenal on Wednesday.

And Klopp appears to have confirmed that he will be departing the club in the next week prior to the transfer deadline.

Per The Daily Express, he said: “Some are not involved tonight.

“It’s the time of the year where some things happen in the background and we have to react sometimes and that’s what we did.”

The Liverpool Echo reports that he is valued at £20 million by the Reds, and two unnamed clubs, one from Italy, have expressed an interest in snapping him up.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

It’s time for Shaqiri to play regularly.

The Swiss star is an excellent winger on his day and he’s still only 28.

He should be approaching his peak, and he really needs to have the chance to show that.

He has won the trophies to be regarded as one of the best players in his position in Europe but he isn’t, because he is regularly a bit-part player in those triumphs.

Thus, Shaqiri moving to another club, potentially one where he can be one of the first names on the team sheet, should be a priority for him.

Liverpool clearly don’t need him; let him move on and thrive.
