With a move for Jadon Sancho seemingly over, Manchester United have turned their attentions to signing Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona.

United are in talks with Barcelona over a deal for the 23-year-old winger, according to Fabrizio Romano, having baulked at Dortmund’s €120 million asking price for Sancho.

“That’s it about Sancho,” Romano tweeted on Friday. “Jadon himself always wanted to join Man United, agreed personal terms by July but... it’s €120m or nothing.”

Dembele is their first-choice alternative and Man United are now trying to complete a deal for the Frenchman before Monday’s deadline.

The winger arrives with a wretched injury history, but he’s probably worth taking a risk on given his enormous talent.

Barcelona once felt confident in spending £96.8 million on Dembele. Now, their transfer activity has been questionable in recent years, but Dembele’s struggles at the Camp Nou have been mainly down to his incessant injuries.

A move to Man United would give Dembele the change of scenery that he might need to reignite his career.

And in Manchester, he would join fellow 2018 World Cup winner Paul Pogba.

It’s been reported that Pogba has played a key role in trying to convince his compatriot to come to United. Will Agent Pogba strike again, having helped United get a deal for Romelu Lukaku over the line?

How Pogba convinced Dembele

We’ll have to see. But details of their phone call have emerged and Pogba pulled out all the stops in his attempts to get Dembele to United.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the midfielder talked up United’s ambitions and pointed out the number of French speakers in the dressing room, including Anthony Martial and Eric Bailly.

Pogba also apparently told Dembele that he would receive more opportunities at United. The emergence of Ansu Fati and arrival of Francisco Trincao have hurt the former Dortmund player’s stock at Barcelona, whereas Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen for attacking depth.

Lastly, Pogba said that a move to United would improve Dembele’s chances of getting back into the France squad ahead of next year’s European Championships.

According to ESPN, it's worked. Dembele is 'on board' with joining the Red Devils.

There’s surely a career as an agent awaiting Pogba once he hangs up his boots.
