Tottenham Hotspur are not resting on their laurels at all.
The club have been doing genuinely exceptional business this summer, helping Jose Mourinho complete his squad as he prepares to fight on four fronts.
Spurs are, of course, trying to seal a top-four finish in the Premier League, they are still in the EFL Cup, they will enter the FA Cup at the turn of the year, and they have sealed safe passage into the Europa League group stages.
Five players have come in so far – headlined by the double acquisition of Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid – while a sixth is en route; Carlos Vinicius, the Benfica striker, is poised to join on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
Yet Spurs are still looking to buy a centre-back.
There has long been a mooted interest in Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, a player who is said to be willing to move to north London and is eager to work with manager Mourinho.
The two clubs have thus far been unable to agree a fee, but it seems that Spurs are not giving up the fight.
They want to sign the Slovakia international and Football.London reports that a new bid will be tabled this weekend as Spurs attempt to get the deal over the line before deadline day, which falls on Monday October 5.
But just in case, they have also identified a potential back-up should a deal not be completed.
That man is Juventus centre-back Merih Demiral.
He spent the majority of last season on the sidelines due to a cruciate ligament injury but the report states that he could be seen as an alternative.
He has a contract until 2024 and is valued at £24.3m by Transfermarkt.

This is a case of getting the ducks in a row before Spurs launch an all-out assault on the transfer window in the final few days.
They have gone in all guns blazing thus far and a deal to sign a starting centre-back would not just be the cherry on top of the cake, but the sparkler attached to the cherry, on top of the three-layered, luxuriously indulgent dessert.
Demiral could be a clever acquisition, too.
While he is not the first-choice – that is very much still Skriniar by the looks of it – he has only made nine appearances for Juve, and one thinks they would not fight too hard to keep him around.
It could even open the door to a potential loan to buy move, as evidenced by the signings of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis and potentially Vinicius from Benfica.
