Leeds transfer news: £20m target revealed as 'someone they admire'

Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United's clash against Manchester City this evening is full of expectation.

Both sides have similar ideologies. They press relentlessly and love to score goals. Coincidentally, they also seem to be conceding a lot.

Furthermore, they have two of the most intriguing personalities in football management coaching their sides.

When asked about Marcelo Bielsa in his pre-match press conference this week, Pep Guardiola responded

"He is probably the person I admire the most in world football - as a manager and as a person.

"He is the most authentic manager in terms of how he conducts his teams. He is unique. Nobody can imitate him, it's impossible."

That sums up just how lucky Leeds were in tying him down for an added year. Bielsa is one of the most studious minds in the game and the Whites stand a far greater chance of staying up with the Argentine, than without him.

Although Victor Orta is in charge of the transfers, it's the lure of Bielsa that brings many a target to the club.

Whether he can convince their remaining targets to sign on the dotted line before the deadline, however, remains to be seen.

Leeds are trying to complete a deal for a winger in the days that remain and on Friday afternoon, journalist Beren Cross delivered some eye-catching news.

Answering supporter questions on Leeds Live, he stated:

"Dan James remains a major target for United, but they are in Man Utd's hands. The latter definitely need someone in before they let James out. Ryan Kent is someone they admire, but I understand he is very content at Ibrox. The De Paul move does not feel as advanced as some would believe. It hasn't been touched in many weeks and the numbers just don't seem to add up for all parties."

James has previously been quoted at £25m, while Kent has been valued at £20m.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

The James saga has been talked about rather frequently so we're going to focus on Ryan Kent for the time being instead.

We've known that he's a player Leeds have admired for quite a while now.

All you need to do is cast your minds back to the summer of 2019. Leeds had agreed a fee with Liverpool to sign the Englishman but after Jack Harrison's early-season form, they decided to pursue a striker instead.

Thus, Orta pulled out of the deal and used the funds to bring Eddie Nketiah to the club on loan instead. That decision ultimately backfired as he returned to Arsenal in January after barely starting a match.

Orta, therefore, now has the ideal opportunity to correct that mistake he made over a year ago. Although Leeds needed a striker, Bielsa still preferred Bamford and as a result, a winger would have gone down rather nicely.

If you consider Kent's form this term, he'd certainly be a fantastic signing. He's already contributed to ten goals in 11 matches. It's a shame that a deal will be difficult to conclude.
