Romelu Lukaku has fired back at those who accused him of being ‘slow’ and ‘lazy’ during his time at Manchester United.The Belgian striker struggled in his second season at Old Trafford, scoring 15 goals in 45 appearances, and was sold to Inter Milan after pushing for a move away.He’s since bounced back in stunning fashion to assert himself as one of the world’s best strikers again. Lukaku scored 34 goals last season and fired Inter to the Europa League final.Lukaku still remembers the comments that were made about him in England, though, and you get the sense that he’s relished proving his critics wrong.“A year ago, when I was in England, I was 'lazy, I didn't run, I didn't do this and that'," Lukaku told The Times."Here, they call me the hardest worker in the room. If you look at me playing here and there, I mean, there are improvements but the [same] Rom is still there.
"If you look at me now you see a different outcome, you see the full person, you see the full potential. You see what I could have been doing in England."They will call me slow and I'm like, 'slow? I cannot keep up with the fast pace game of Man Utd?”Lukaku leaked speed dataThe negative comments came frequently during that difficult 2018/19 season.It reached the point where Lukaku felt the need to leak United’s training data to prove that he wasn’t slow.In August 2019, the Belgium international posted a video showing the results of a speed test carried out by United’s players.
Lukaku was second fastest
Lukaku clocked the second highest top speed from the session, ahead of Marcus Rashford and Daniel James.
Diogo Dalot came in first place with a max speed of 36.43kph, with Lukaku just behind at 36.25kph.
Tahith Chong, Rashford and James also made the top five.
Luke Shaw was the slowest of the players whose names appeared, clocking in slower than Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Scott McTominay with a top speed of 31.03kph.
The left-back, however, responded to Lukaku by saying he was only asked to run at 70%.
