Manchester United fans have been crying out for new signings this summer. After an impressive end to the 2019/20 season which saw the Red Devils qualify for the Champions League, the onus was on the board to improve the squad. So far, they have failed to do that. The only addition thus far has been Donny van de Beek and the Dutchman is yet to start a Premier League game.United's failed pursuit of Jadon Sancho has also angered supporters, but the club have now reportedly agreed a deal to bring in a new forward. But it's not exactly a signing that will fill the supporters with excitement.Solskjaer with UnitedAs reported by ESPN, Edinson Cavani has agreed a two-year deal with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side and will travel from Paris to Manchester for medicals tomorrow.

The 33-year-old Uruguayan striker was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, but it appears he's picked the Premier League as his next destination.

Cavani has been one of the best strikers of the modern era and is Paris Saint-Germain's record goal scorer with 200 goals in just 301 appearances in all competitions.

But is an ageing striker - who is way past his best and will likely command enormous wages - what United need? On the face of it, no.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are both superior and more versatile forward options, while Odion Ighalo can fill in up front if needed.

Cavani with PSG

Did someone say 'panic buy'? Of course, there is potential for Cavani's arrival to mirror that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's.

The Swede arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016 at the age of 34 and proceeded to light up the Premier League.

Cavani - like Zlatan was - is still in excellent physical shape and 'El Matador' also scored seven goals in 22 appearances for PSG in 2019/20.

On paper, the signing of the Uruguayan this summer doesn't appear to be the greatest move by United, but he may just surprise us and turn into another Zlatan. Or he'll flop and be Radamel Falcao 2.0...
