With just over a day before the summer transfer window closes, Leeds have some work to do.

A week ago it didn't look as though they'd need to do much.

A move for Michael Cuisance was on the verge of going through and Victor Orta had added to Marcelo Bielsa's squad effectively.

However, they now face a race against time to complete one or two last deals after Cuisance's move fell through.

Nahitan Nandez at Cagliari is one of the names who could join. Leeds had a bid of £30m rejected for his services before an offer was then made for Spanish midfielder Jose Campana.

As well as the need to land an extra central midfielder, there could be a new winger arriving at Elland Road.

On the shortlist at the moment are Ryan Kent, Daniel James and Demarai Gray

That being said, could we also see a defender arrive in Yorkshire? Stephen Ambrosius was linked towards the end of the week and now another new name has arrived on the scene courtesy of reports from France.

According to Le10 Sport, Leeds are one of the sides interested in signing talented Arsenal teenager William Saliba on loan.

In ruling out interest from Ligue 1 side Marseille, they suggested that the Gunners were willing to let him leave temporarily again after initially loaning him back to St Etienne for the 2019/20 campaign.

Fulham are another of the teams touted with making a move for the centre-back, a player who cost Arsenal a considerable £27m last summer.

Whether Leeds can secure him ahead of their division rivals remains to be seen.

Right throughout the window it's been clear that Leeds want to sign a young defender.

18-year-old Josko Gvardiol was the first name on their mind but after he joined RB Leipzig, it was Hamburg defender Ambrosius who emerged on their radar.

Though, they clearly have other and more impressive targets in mind.

Saliba came back to north London this summer to much fanfare, being described as a "phenomenan" but Arteta has chosen not to throw him in at the deep end by refusing to hand him his Premier League debut.

Although he has an immense future, a year away from the Gunners could do him some good.

Leeds surely wouldn't be the right destination. They have already added Robin Koch and Diego Llorente to their ranks, while Pascal Struijk is now a permanent member of the first-team side after proving himself in pre-season.

For all parties, this isn't a move that makes too much sense. It's unlikely Arsenal will be willing to risk Saliba's future either after what happened during Eddie Nketiah's loan spell.
