Manchester United have had an incredibly frustrating summer.

After finishing third in the Premier League the hope was that the club would be able to kick on and push themselves into title contention.

Liverpool and Manchester City have dominated for far too long as far as United are concerned, and that's something that they were determined to stop.

Unfortunately I'm not sure that this will happen this term.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has only brought in one player so far this summer in the shape of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

While several other players have been linked, the Red Devils now face a rush get some deals done before the deadline on Monday evening.

One position that's being targeted is a centre-forward, however it finally seems that progress is being made.

Reports have claimed that Edinson Cavani is closing in on a move to Old Trafford after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season.

Despite this move the club are still keen to bring in a wide player, with Jadon Sancho the player being heavily linked to make a move.

But it seems that United are now stepping up their pursuit of a different player.

Reports from Sky Sports, as quoted by the Daily Star, have claimed that United have opened talks over a move for Ismaila Sarr.

The Watford man has been heavily linked with a move away from Vicarage Road after the club suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Liverpool were also said to be keen, however their interest cooled after signing Diogo Jota from Wolves.

It's thought that the Hornets are demanding around £40million for the player - a substantial sum but one which is significantly cheaper than a potential deal for Jadon Sancho would be.

This could be a very interesting move for Manchester United.

Ismaila Sarr showed in his time at Watford that he has the potential to be a top, top player.

Valued at £22.05million by Transfermarkt, Sarr scored six and created six in 32 appearances for the Hornets.

Described as 'a real match-winner' by Nigel Pearson, the 22-year-old could be a very shrewd signing for the future.

With any deal being a domestic signing it means that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have another two weeks to get a deal wrapped up - something that could be key in striking the best deal possible.

Whether this move materialises remains to be seen, but it's certainly one to watch.
