Edinson Cavani is on the verge of becoming Manchester United’s second summer signing, with less than 48 hours to go before the transfer window closes. The Uruguayan forward, who scored 200 goals in 301 games for Paris Saint-Germain between 2013-2020, is poised to sign a two-year contract with the Red Devils. He will earn £210,000-a-week, making him the club’s fourth-highest paid player after David de Gea, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial. Some Man Utd fans fear that Cavani is only joining their club for one last big payday. There’s also concern that the 33-year-old is too old to make an impact in the Premier League. But fans of every club Cavani has played for will all say the same thing: he always puts in a shift.Ahead of the South American’s move to Old Trafford, Get French Football News tweeted: “In Edinson Cavani, Manchester United are getting an incredibly loveable human & footballer who will fight as hard as anyone in the squad. His efficacy in front of goal has long been questioned & he needs a high volume of chances, but he is still PSG’s top goalscorer of all time.”

Earlier this year, meanwhile, Cavani was praised by football fans for his decision not to join in with the rest of his PSG teammates when they mocked Borussia Dortmund’s young striker Erling Haaland.

PSG’s players - including Neymar and Kylian Mbappe - mocked Haaland’s trademark celebration following a Champions League clash after an apparent selfie Snapchat from the Norwegian wonderkid read: "My city, not yours" next to the word "PARIS".

This Snapchat message turned out to be fake. So although it was unclear to them at the time, PSG’s players were mocking Haaland unfairly.

After PSG advanced to the 2019-20 Champions League quarter-finals at Dortmund’s expense, PSG’s stars continued to mock Haaland inside the dressing room.

Neymar, meanwhile, posted this on Instagram…

However, you’ll notice from the photo of PSG’s players mocking Haaland on the Parc des Princes pitch that Cavani was absent.

The Uruguayan refused to get involved.

And in the dressing room, he was filmed stood with his hands on his hips as his teammates went crazy.

We can only assume Cavani felt that mocking Haaland, who was only 19 at the time, was wrong.

So while we can’t tell for certain whether Cavani will light up Old Trafford, we do know that the Red Devils are signing a man of integrity and respect for his fellow professionals.

"It goes without saying he's a world star," former Man Utd star Ryan Giggs said, per the Irish Mirror. "My second game [as Wales manager] was against Uruguay and Cavani scored and I was really impressed with his work rate and quality.

"It's about how quickly he beds in. We have seen South Americans who haven't really come and done it like [Radamel] Falcao, [Angel] Di Maria and [Alexis] Sanchez, but Cavani, with his work rate, you expect him to make it.

"I think United needed a centre-forward, and needed that target man to score the goals and make that difference. Hopefully he can do that.

"I think Cavani will have no problem with the size of the club. He's got the experience to handle that. But eyes will be on him straight away and if he does come he'll have to hit the ground running because the pressure will be on."
