Harry Maguire had a game to forget against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.Well, to be fair to the Manchester United captain, there wasn't a single player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad that could have held their head high after the embarrassing defeat. And to think it was all going so well for the Red Devils when they won themselves a penalty through Anthony Martial, teeing up Bruno Fernandes to score his second spot kick of the season.

First-half demolition job

However, it didn't take long for Tottenham to flip the game on its head with Tanguy Ndombele profiting from some woeful defending to equalise, before Son Heung-min swiftly made it 2-1.

United's misery was then compounded when Martial was given a straight red card for violent conduct against Erik Lamela, albeit in rather petty circumstances with a minimal slap.

Nevertheless, it opened the floodgates further at Old Trafford with Harry Kane and Son once again only taking a few minutes to expose the 10 men by making it 3-1 and then 4-1 respectively.

Poor defending from Man Utd

Even the half-time interval didn't allow United much respite with Sergie Aurier writing his name on the scoresheet, before Kane rounded off the mauling with a penalty of his own.

So, it would be fair to say that United weren't exactly on their best behaviour with defending and you can trace their disorganisation all the way back to Spurs' first goal within five minutes.

Harry Maguire, the world's most expensive defender, was panned on social media for his role in dealing with an attack that ultimately culminated in Ndombele smashed home from close range.

Maguire's shocking defending

The England international produced two of the worst headed clearances you'll see this season, firing the first towards Eric Bailly and the second straight into the path of Tottenham's forwards.

However, perhaps the most embarrassing aspect of Maguire's defensive disasterclass has been exposed by a viral video on Twitter - and it makes for dire viewing if you're a United fan.

The footage cruelly exposes how Maguire essentially hauled Luke Shaw, who could have saved his bacon, down to the ground to essentially open the door for Tottenham to score - check it out:

Oh dear. It doesn't look good for you, Harry, I'm not going to lie.

There's no denying that Maguire is a top, top defender on his day, but the frequency with which he's been make defensive errors must be cause for concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Besides, this latest viral clip will probably give United fans unwanted memories of his so-called 'no-look defending' in the Europa League.

But no matter how you look at the situation, it only serves to sum up the deep-lying issues at Old Trafford right now and no activity on Deadline Day will come close to solving that immediately.

So, yes, Maguire once again didn't help himself with some more questionable defending, but it's errors tantamount to his that are being made at every level of the club that are costing United.
