Liverpool fans are in shock after being annihilated 7-2 by Aston Villa on Sunday night.Everybody knew that the new Premier League season was going to be the strangest in history amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, but nobody expected the results to be quite this astonishing.Lest we forget that the absolute madness at Villa Park commenced barely an hour after Manchester Untied were on the receiving end of a 6-1 demolition job against Tottenham Hotspur.

Chaos in the Premier League

Oh, and Leicester City had somehow fallen to a 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham United despite having shocked the division with a storming 5-2 win at Manchester City last weekend.

Yeh, we have absolutely no idea, but we just couldn't take our eyes off the drama in Birmingham as one of the greatest ever Premier League sides crumbled before us.

Even when Villa found themselves 2-0 up within the opening 22 minutes, you never really believed Liverpool would lose and that seemed to be corroborated when Mohamed Salah struck back.

Liverpool thrashed 7-2

However, by the time Liverpool could take a breather at half-time, they found themselves 4-1 down with John McGinn having scored and Ollie Watkins securing the match ball with a hat-trick.

Former Everton hero Ross Barkley then rubbed salt in Liverpool wounds with debut goal and try as Salah might with another goal on the road, it ultimately proved futile as Villa pounced again.

It seemed apt that Jack Grealish was the man to round off one of Villa's greatest ever Premier League results, bagging the sixth with a deflected strike and the seventh with a one-on-one finish.

Horrendous Liverpool defending

But as much as Villa deserve all the praise in the world for their performance, we can't ignore the fact that Liverpool were woeful defensively and it proved to be a night to forget for Adrian.

The Spaniard was given the nod between the sticks after Alisson Becker was ruled out with injury, but looked shaky from the very start and cheaply gave the ball away for Watkins' opener.

However, the most embarrassing moment of the game for Adrian came in even more bizarre circumstances with fans accusing him of moving like a Pro Clubs goalkeeper.

Adrian accused of Pro Clubs goalkeeping

That's because Liverpool's number two showed some inexplicable positioning, seemingly allowing Aston Villa an open goal for free and somehow, luckily, seeing the effort strike the crossbar.

Check the incident that was so amusing it had Jamie Carragher laughing on commentary below:

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

It takes a bad goalkeeper to know bad goalkeeping  and I've made enough mistakes in the Mid Lincs B-League over the years to give my excellent, in-depth, world-class insight here.

Ok, joking aside, I genuinely don't know what Adrian was up to here and it almost saw Liverpool fall 8-2 down with one of the weirdest goals in Premier League history.

I can only assume that Adrian was adjusting his positioning with the trajectory of the cross so he would be in line to catch it, but surely he noticed the Villa player dashing across the box!?

I mean, he couldn't have been anymore in Adrian's eye-line if he tried and therefore, if the 'keeper was going to come out, he needed to rush forwards and not backwards.

But who am I kidding? Aside from sparking the classic 8-2 banter on Twitter, conceding seven or eight goals is much of a muchness on a night of utter, utter humiliation for the champions.
