Manchester United were well and truly humiliated by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening. There have been tremors of discontent at Old Trafford throughout the opening weeks of the season, but nobody could have anticipated a meltdown of such dramatic proportions. The defeat to Crystal Palace was a warning, the wobbles against Brighton were a cautionary tale and the complete mishandling of the transfer window is an inditement of United's inner goings on.

Man Utd suffer humiliation

However, none of those cracks in the Old Trafford foundations could compare to being on the receiving end of a 6-1 annihilation against the very manager they sacked less than two years ago.

The record-equalling loss may have been compounded by Anthony Martial's red card for violent conduct, but the Red Devils were well on their way to defeat while the game was 11v11.

Woeful defending from Harry Maguire allowed Spurs to cancel out Bruno Fernandes' penalty opener through Tanguy Ndombele, before Son Heung-min completely flipped the game on its head.

Man Utd 1-6 Tottenham

The South Korean then helped himself to another, while his partner in crime Harry Kane also bagged a brace and Serge Aurier proved the other goal during the stunning victory.

It was an astonishing performance that, frankly, must have made plenty of United fans relieved that they weren't present in the stadium to see the disasterclass with their own two eyes.

That being said, it made for pretty dire watching from sofas around the world, too, with one particular United fan sharing his experience with thousands more as his beloved team came unstuck.

Mark Goldbridge's viral reactions

We are, of course, referring to the man, the myth, the legend who is Mark Goldbridge.

The United Stand presenter seldom passes a week without going viral for his incredibly entertaining and passionate live-streams - and you can imagine how he was feeling during Sunday's game.

In fact, Twitter user @MPH1982 amusingly took it upon themselves to compile a brilliant montage of Goldbridge's various reactions ranging from joy to anguish during the historic loss - check it out:

Oh dear, oh dear. Poor Mark.

Growing problems at Man Utd

Goldbridge has been unabashed about his views on the United board and their handling of transfers, so you can see his frustrations building up to boiling point during the live-stream.

But in his defence, it's easy to see why each and ever United supporter would have been frothing at the mouth with a defeat that can only be matched by Manchester City's infamous win in 2011.

It remains to be seen whether United will be able to sufficiently paper over the cracks on Deadline Day, though maybe the international break will provide them with some much-needed respite.

Then again, the problems at Old Trafford are growing wider than the extent of their Spurs defeat.
