Manchester United are in turmoil, there's no doubt about it.

The writing was on the wall long before the Red Devils suffered a shock defeat to Crystal Palace on the opening weekend of the season and things have only gone downhill since.

United can count themselves very lucky that they rescued three points away to Brighton and they were once again exposed in humiliating fashion when Tottenham made the trip to Old Trafford.

Man Utd in crisis

Despite taking the lead through a Bruno Fernandes penalty, United suffered their joint worst defeat of the Premier League era as Jose Mourinho's side proceeded to run away 6-1 victors.

It was interesting timing, too, with Deadline Day coming less than 24 hours later and the signing of Alex Telles, as well as the impending arrival of Edinson Cavani, are serving as distractions.

But make no mistake, United will need more than two signings to turn things around and a shocking new report claims that the club are already considering switching out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Man Utd contact Pochettino

You have to feel sorry for the United manager when their failure to make more than one signing before the final days of the transfer window has cost them so poorly on the pitch.

And now it's come as a massive shock that the Daily Star are claiming on Deadline Day that the Red Devils have one eye on replacing Solskjaer with Mauricio Pochettino if results don't improve.

It's claimed that senior club figures have already made contact with Pochettino and that the former Tottenham manager is keen to take the job to restart his coaching career.

Ed Woodward is believed to be against the idea of sacking Solskjaer in the current international break, but is of the opinion that there needs to be a rapid upturn in results very soon.

Otherwise, the idea is floated that United could cut ties with Solskjaer by the time Premier League football once again takes a back-seat for national teams in November.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

I'm angry. I'm genuinely angry.

Well, first and foremost, the news has come so far out of left-field that it's worth taking with a pinch of salt, but it has long been touted that United seem to flirt with Pochettino on the side.

Therefore, if this report turns out to be true, I can't help feeling sorry for Solskjaer because the role he has played in United's turmoil this season has been minimal compared to that of the board.

The Red Devils seem to be stuck in a cycle of not backing their managers after they secure Champions League qualification, before eventually sacking them and repeating all over again.

So, yes, by that theory, Solskjaer's head will roll before the year is out and while I wouldn't be surprised, I think it's imperative that United snap themselves out of this grossly unhealthy routine.
