Tottenham Hotspur will be thrilled with how the transfer window has gone.

In fact, you could argue that they've had the most success of any side in the Premier League this summer.

Given the fact that they failed to qualify for the Champions League last term, it's hugely impressive that they've been able to sign such quality players.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty were solid additions from rivals in the top flight, while the deals for Sergio Reguilon, Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius certainly added the quality needed to help the club to crack on.

Jose Mourinho was determined to build a squad of winners, and you'd have to be a brave man to suggest that he hasn't done that with the club's transfer business.

But even with the international transfer deadline passing, it seems that Spurs aren't yet done.

The quest to sign a central defender proved to be a bridge too far ahead of Monday night's 11pm deadline, meaning that the club may have to look closer to home.

The domestic deadline doesn't pass until October 16 which means that Tottenham have the option of signing players from the EFL for another 10 days.

One man who has been covering Tottenham's transfer exploits closely is Alasdair Gold of Football London who says that he'd like to see the club scouring the lower leagues for a potential addition.

Writing in a Q&A, Gold said: "The centre of defence we know is the one area that could do with an addition but Alderweireld, Sanchez, Dier, Tanganga and Davies are not exactly the worst options in the world.

"Spurs are looking at a couple of options across Europe and at home but time is now against them.

"I do wonder whether, with their foreign player issues, they might also take a look at some promising defenders in the Championship in the EFL window.

"That's only my opinion though, or perhaps hope, as Spurs have got away from that kind of purchase in recent years."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

There's no doubt that Tottenham have enjoyed a heck of a summer.

While they didn't sign a central defender, you can't argue with the business that they've done so far.

After all, they still have time to get more deals over the line.

While they'll now be limited to deals from the EFL, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

There's plenty of talented young defenders in the Championship and this is something that Tottenham's scouting department will be fully aware of.

If they can strike a deal for one of these stars then they'll be very happy.

You never know, it may be that Spurs are able to get something of a bargain by looking a bit closer to home.
