Tottenham Hotspur have been strengthening their squad with a vengeance.

The club have been incredibly active throughout the summer, bringing in a number of new players.

Not only have Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon both arrived from Real Madrid, Spurs have also brought in a new goalkeeper in Joe Hart, a new right-back in Matt Doherty, a new defensive midfielder – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – and a back-up striker in Carlos Vinicius.

However, they do not seem to be done.

Reports on transfer deadline day claimed that Spurs were looking to sign Joe Rodon from Swansea City, though they do not have a ticking clock to contend with.

The domestic deadline is not for another 10 days and means that Spurs have some time to agree a fee with the Championship club for the central defender.

However, it seems that they are not only interested in snapping up the 22-year-old.

Sky Sports reports that there is interest in another, as yet unnamed, centre-back who also plays for a Championship club.

Paul Gilmour, the outlet’s Spurs correspondent, reports that Jose Mourinho’s side are interested in another player from the EFL.

In the 23:23 entry on the live transfer centre blog, Gilmour said: “Spurs are chasing a seventh signing of this window, but it won’t be this evening. Joe Rodon, the Swansea defender, is the target, with Spurs in talks for him.

“We’re also told Tottenham are looking at another unknown centre-back in another deal that could be done before October 16, so that’s perhaps safe to assume that player is an EFL player.”

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Daniel Levy is backing Mourinho to the hilt.

It is clear that the Portuguese wants a centre-back and it appears that the club are being creative in terms of how they strengthen.

It appeared for quite a while that a deal for Milan Skriniar, the Inter Milan defender, could be completed, but that pursuit has ended in disappointment.

Still, Levy has clearly heard Mourinho’s pleas and is doing everything he can to bolster the Portuguese’s defence even after a frantic summer of activity.

That can only be a good thing for this Spurs side.
