Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has lauded goalkeeper Pepe Reina’s contribution to Liverpool this season, telling the official website the star has been the main weapon for the Merceryside Club as they boast their best form in the last 18 months.

“His distribution is fantastic for us. He sees things, he's sharp.,” Dalglish said.

“He made the second goal against Birmingham last week and he's done it again.”

Reina completed a stylish goal kick to Luiz Suarez against Newcastle on Sunday, creating the penalty that sent Liverpool up 2-0 and closed down the game against their Northern opposition.

Dalglish said this is a tactic often used by Reina, and the star keeper has created goals at important moments for Liverpool before.

"It's important that he can pass the ball for us,” Dalglish said.

“If the opposition is close up, he can hit it long and if they back off he can knock it short."

Reina has not confirmed or denied the growing speculation that he is planning a move away from Liverpool in the summer, though he has talked about future tactics at Liverpool, with things looking a lot more positive for the Kop since Dalglish took over in January.

“We have improved since Kenny became manager, we have beaten the big teams, but it is important as players to repeat that in every game,” Reina recently told reporters.

“We need to be consistent with the aggression, commitment – everything.

“We started this season and the last one not the best - next time, we need to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
