NXT TakeOver 31 tore the house down on Sunday night.

WWE went all out for the developmental brand's latest event, transforming the Performance Center into the 'Capitol Wrestling Center'.

It certainly looked the part, with 'all the bells and whistles' of the ThunderDome, but with an 'edgier, darker and raw' feel.

With a small crowd in attendance too, the venue for TakeOver 31 really looked great and the action inside the ring wasn't bad either.

While all eyes were on Kyle O'Reilly and Finn Balor's main event match for the NXT Championship, superstars lower down the card did their best to steal the show.

At least one of them succeeded it seems because according to Dave Meltzer, WWE officials have earmarked their next big star.

Speaking on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer revealed that the company have big plans for Damian Priest.

Priest could be WWE's next big thing

WWE see him as someone with 'a lot of potential' and Johnny Gargano, who he wrestled at TakeOver, was the 'setup guy to get him there'.

Per EWrestlingNews, officials want to make Priest a 'big time star' due to 'certain qualities' including his look, voice and athleticism.

Fans would certainly be excited to see the NXT star receive a big push on the main roster. At TakeOver, his match with Gargano was one of the best of the night.

Priest and Gargano tore the house down

The pair kicked off the main show and their match saw Priest successfully defended his NXT North American Championship in an epic 18-minute bout. Talk about setting the pace.

While this week's WWE Draft is surely far too early for Priest to be called up to the main roster, expect to see him dominating the Black and Gold Brand for months to come.

He could be in line for a shot at Balor's NXT Championship soon...
