Silly season is not over, folks. Though the European transfer deadline may have passed at the start of the week, the domestic window remains open for clubs looking to do business in this country until October 16th and, as ever, the rumour mill is churning.

Indeed, due to the fact FIFA usually allows a summer window to run for 12 weeks, Premier League clubs are still allowed to bring players from the EFL in and vice-versa. Furthermore, across the EFL, players can swap clubs before that point with Deadline Day 2 coming half-way through this month and just before the first round of fixtures after the international break.

The Premier League has managed to cherry-pick a number of talents from lower down the footballing pyramid in this country to great success over the years. The likes of Dele Alli, James Maddison and Michail Antonio have all arrived at big clubs after success in League One and the Championship respectively to go on to play starring roles and, of course, it works the other way too.

With  managers amongst the English elite having to confirm their 25-man squads by October 20, the domestic window offers the chance to potentially shift any deadwood or offer a burgeoning talent the chance to develop elsewhere.

So, here's a round-up from GMS on the deals that could still happen in October...

6) Craig Dawson - Watford to West Ham

Craig Dawson

West Ham fans may not have got the busy transfer window many would have wanted but, following up on the signing of Vladimir Coufal, further defensive reinforcement could soon arrive. The London Evening Standard report the Hammers are lining up a move to bring Craig Dawson back to the Premier League in a bid to bolster their backline.

Following a last-gasp rejection from Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori, the Irons are believed to want an experienced head to compete with the likes of Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop. Promisingly, Watford are also understood to want to shift the player's wages and will make the former West Brom man available for a nominal fee.

With 182 appearances in the Premier League to his name, he certainly fits the mould when it comes to experience.

5) Todd Cantwell - Norwich City to Leeds United

Todd Cantwell

Norwich boss Daniel Farke claimed he'd rather play the Canaries' kitman than Todd Cantwell earlier this season as a result of what he's seen in training. Indeed, many would have expected to see the midfielder leave Carrow Road this summer after a reasonably successful (on a personal basis) stint in the Premier League last season, a campaign which saw him score six goals and provide two assists. So, the fact he's remained in East Anglia this long is a surprise.

An England U21 international, links with Liverpool and Manchester United may not have come to fruition but Football Insider do claim Leeds United are still weighing up a move for him before the end of this month.

4) William Saliba - Arsenal to the Championship

William Saliba

Signed last summer as one for the future, Arsenal's William Saliba is likely to be heading out on loan in order to further his development according to the Press Association.

While the Frenchman does have 36 senior league appearances to his name during his time with Saint-Etienne, the curtailing of the Ligue 1 season as a result of the coronavirus outbreak is understood to have forced the Gunners into taking stock of his immediate future. Having not played competitive football in roughly seven months, Arsenal are believed to want him to get back up to speed on loan in the Championship.

David Luiz and Gabriel have been the first-choice defenders for Mikel Arteta's side so far with Rob Holding ultimately kept at the club despite reported interest from Newcastle so affording Saliba the chance to bank some first-team minutes does make sense.

3) Joe Rodon - Swansea to Tottenham Hotspur

Joe Rodon

Jose Mourinho's overhaul of Tottenham Hotspur looks set to continue into October with Spurs locked in talks over a move for Swansea City's Joe Rodon according to Sky Sports

Described as a 'commanding' central defender capable of 'stepping out with the ball' in a scout report from the Daily Mail earlier this year, the Welshman averaged more interceptions, clearances and blocks than both Eric Dier and Davinson Sachez per 90 minutes last season. Obviously, Premier League football would be a step up for Rodon but - aged just 22 - he would represent a long-term investment for the North London giants.

2) Ismaila Sarr - Watford to the Premier League

Sarr Watford

As Manchester United desperately looked around for alternatives to Jadon Sancho, Watford's Ismaila Sarr featured heavily amongst the speculation. One of the most expensive players to ever in the Championship, the Hornets' £40m man was also reported to be of interest to Liverpool, so it's not exactly far-fetched to imagine a Premier League club potentially looking to bring him in before October 16th.

After all, this is a man who ripped the Reds apart back in February by scoring twice to help end their unbeaten run and was touted as one of the most exciting wonderkids in European football as recently as 2018.

The Athletic's Adam Leventhal did suggest a move to Old Trafford was unlikely at this point but noted negotiations had been in 'full swing' and that they could continue for another week or so yet.

1) Saïd Benrahma - Brentford to West Ham

Saïd Benrahma

Following Brentford's loss in the Play-Off final, it was barely a surprise to see their talisman Ollie Watkins tempted away for pastures new after the Bees' impressive exploits in the Championship. What is more curious, however, is the fact former teammate Saïd Benrahma has remained in West London for this long.

Linked with the likes of Crystal Palace and Chelsea after a campaign that saw the Algerian score 17 goals, register a further 9 assists and record an impressive 3.8 shots per game (the most in the division) there's little doubting the 25-year-old's quality. Still, if bitter rivals Fulham needed any reminding after their Wembley celebrations, Benrahma's ridiculous back-heel nutmeg against the Cottagers in the Carabao Cup would have brought the memories flooding back.

According to the London Evening Standard, the former Nice youngster is of interest to West Ham as they look to replace Felipe Anderson. Given his impact in the Championship, his potential arrival is mouth-watering and remains one of the major stories of the domestic window.
