West Ham United supporters will be hugely frustrated at present.

Last season was a real struggle for the Hammers as they failed to fulfil their potential and push on towards the top half of the table.

Instead a number of below par performances saw the club battling to avoid the drop in the Premier League, with survival being secured in the final week of the season.

That was a real warning sign for the club and the hope was that the pre-season break would see them significantly strengthen in the transfer market.

Unfortunately for supporters, that hasn't happened.

Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal are the only two arrivals at the club so far, while a number of players have already left the club.

As well as the likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Albian Ajeti, Jordan Hugill and Grady Diangana, the club have since offloaded Josh Cullen, Jack Wilshere and Felipe Anderson who has joined Porto on loan.

Those departures have left David Moyes' squad looking particularly frail, and that's why the suggestion is that they're not yet finished in the transfer market.

Among the positions being targeted is an attack-minded player, and that has led the club to the door of one of the Championship's most exciting talents.

Reports from The Mirror have linked the Hammers with a move for Said Benrahma.

The Brentford star was one of the division's top performers last term after so nearly guiding the Bees to promotion.

Benrahma scored 17 goals and created 10 more for Thomas Frank's side, leading to links with a number of top flight clubs this time around.

As well as the Irons, Crystal Palace have been heavily linked with a move while the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and even Manchester United are also said to be keen.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would be a real signal of intent for West Ham United.

Described by Thomas Frank as being 'magnificent', Said Benrahma is a player with undoubted quality.

It's no surprise at all that he's being linked with a move to the Premier League.

David Moyes is lack genuine, reliable quality in his squad and a move for the Brentford man would certainly bring that.

Benrahma is simply too good for the Championship and looks like a near-guarantee to thrive in the top flight.

If West Ham can be the club to help him achieve his potential then a move could end up being very fruitful for the east London side.
